So, what did we get up to this weekend folks?

Singing, dancing, walking, talking - maybe even a spot of exploring?

Do tell!

Getting Frank About the Lingua Franca

While some languages are becoming extinct, other languages seem to be taking over the world! English is becoming the lingua franca through which people from all over the world communicate. Will English eventually replace all other languages? Is this dangerous or desirable? What do you think?

To York and Beyond

This weekend all our students are going to York! The city is famous for its amazing architecture, its mighty Minster, and of course, its sublime shopping! Locals say it is one of Europe's most inspiring cities. Let's see if our students agree...

MY EAC 2010

This two weeks at EAC are fantastic! The Campus is wonderful!!!!
My favourite part was Mr and Mrs EAC,it is very very funny, but my worst part was the Generation Game, it's too difficoult.
The staff are very nice!!! Liam and Dave are my favourite staff people.
The school is funny, my teachers, Bob and Helen B, are very good!.
The excursions are ok, my my favourites are the excursion in York and in Manchester.
The only bad thing is the food!! But the breakfast is fantastic, wonderful!!
In the others groups there are very nice people.
I hope I can return here a day!!!

Talent Show

Yesterday I went to the Talent Show and I enjoyed it because my friends were taking part in this Show. They were very good and funny but they came second but after the Show many friends have done a mini show more interesting and enjoing. After this activity the Italian people have said "Bye bye" to Roman people because they were going to leave at four o'clock in the same night. Yesterday night and now someo of the Italian people are very sad.

The talent show

Yesterday a lot of people participated in the talent show. Some danced and others sang.
Some staff there were the judges and they decided on the positions
The winer was the ballet dancer, but for us the best perfomance was 'La Macarena' tipical dancing spanish.

2010 Holiday in England, Hull

We have been here in the college for almost two weeks: the weather during the first one was sunny and quite good, despite of the second, during which we found it rainy and a bit bad.
So the English climate is colder than the Italian one and if you go to England it is better to bring with yourself a raincoat or an umbrella! ;)
Another difference between uk and our country is about the food : everybody knows that Italian cusine is always better than the English one.
Since we are here to learn English, let's talk about teachers and lessons, which have improved our knowledge in speaking and pronouncing English and help us to learn many new words and usefull expressions.
teachers and activity leaders were very sociable and kind and often we found them very funny and working with passion, [expecially Bob :-P]. they couldn't be better!!!
The college is full of green and it has an enormous garden on which we could sunbathe and play many sports.
We didn't like our accomodations because they were too small and maybe the furniture was too big compared to the dimensions of the rooms and our group was divided in two different blocks : we have to stay together if we wanna enjoy our holiday in Hull.
We enjoyed some of the activities, but not all of them: for example we liked the talent show and the disco, but we think it should be done twice a week; in any case we disliked the quiz-night and the casino' and perhaps we spent too much time playing sport and wandering in the college.
Our group leader's daugther won the talent show and two friends of ours came 2nd!!! <3... then we danced the macarena all together.
Finally we visited many towns and we found almost all the trips very interesting but they could be funnier if we would have more time to go shopping.
To sum up this summer holiday was fantastic!! <3

Our eac holidays in HULL!

During these two weeks we really enjoyed staying in the college, so that we would like to stay here another week!
In fact we found a lot of good points (and bad ones) that we would like to talk about. For example, the things we liked most are the accomodation (large and comfortable rooms; wonderful room service) and teachers (very professional, kind and helpful). We also loved the games room where we could play table tennis and pool and where we watched the world cup final.
Here in the college we met a lot of people who became our friends but they all came from our same country: Italy! So we didn't use to speak English with them.
One of the things we think the college should improve is hosting more people from different countries.
This year the weather has been quite good; we mean, it hasn't been so bad as the other years we went to England. But we found one bad thing in common: the food. We know that we are all spoilt, but when we went to the canteen, we entered hell (ahahah! Just joking). We need to say that the food they gave us in the canteen was 100 times better than the packed lunch. Every week-end we (h)ate it, but fortunately we were on excursions, and we could go to fast foods. Trips were very interesting, especially the one to Edinburgh and its Castle, and the one to Lincoln.
After all those tiring things, we had night activities. Well, some of them weren't so funny (we found quiz and casino quite boring) but one was BRILLIANT, GREAT, AWESOME: we're talking about the TALENT SHOW! It was very well-organized, with judges and other points, and all the contestants were very talented.
Except Liam, of course. Nothing talented about him. (ahahahah!)
Finally, we repeat that this holiday, and this summer school have been fantastic. Thank you, everyone! From David, to Bob, to Abraham, to the people who serve in the canteen and who clean our rooms.
God save us!

Mattia Donadoni yeahhhhh

summerschool

Two weeks ago we arrived at Manchester airport. Our taxidriver brought us to EAC summerschool in Cottingham and we were very excited what would happen. ...
Now we stay here for two weeks and we want to write about our impressions:

The first guy we met was our groupleader Andreas. He was very nice and showed us around. We started with our rooms, which are really good, clean and comfortable. Then we saw the rest of the campus: the concourse, the computer room (We are happy to have it!), the Verandah Bar (in which it was too hot!) and the canteen. The food was good, better than we thought, but we are happy to eat mum's food at home.
On the campus there were some people with orange t-shirts, the activityleaders. We really liked them and had a lot of fun with them. They tried hard to entertain us, but some evening programmes weren't so amazing.(for example "The generation game")
The half day excursions were really interesting, but there were too many museums. We ask us "How many museums are in the near?".
We didn't like "sports, art & crafts", it was really boring.
The full day trip to Lincoln was great. We visited the cathedral and went shopping. And we are excited to see York on Saturday.

The best of all was to get to know new people. But at the first time it was difficult to include us in the big Italian groups. Then we found some nice people and in the second week the new Germans arrived, among other things our new groupleader Pia.

This blog is one of our exercise in lesson. The teachers (We had Bob and Helen S.)were very nice and thought us a lot of new things. Sometimes the lessons were a little bit boring, but we are at (summer)school. ;)

All in all it was a great experience and we're happy that we made the decision to go here.

CAMPUS:
It`s rather a big college, we like the main building and we think that the rooms are confortable and very nice. We love the huge garden because you can play football or just relax.

EAC STAFF:
They`re very nice and always ready to help us, they are great! They work seriously and do everything to make our stay as best as they can.

LESSONS:
They are very interesting and we learnt a lot of things (vocabulary mostly). They are useful because it`s an occasion to improve our conversation skills. We like that other students are from different countries (especially from Spain!).

TRIPS:
We went to Lincoln that is a small city with a beautiful gothic cathedral and a huge castle, we enjoyed the main street of the city (Steep Hill). During the second trip we made, we visited Beverly, there we liked the gothic cathedral too but we think that there`s not much more than that, and we had too much freetime.

LIFE IN CAMPUS:
The breakfast is rather good, after that we had classes, that we have already described. Lunch/Dinner wasn`t bad but we actually prefer Italian food. The afternoon activicties could be better with more half day trip.

We really enjoyed the vacation and we hope to return to a eac college.

In the evenings, we have activities, like quizzes, sports, films... Those activities are quite long but are funny too.

A day in Manchester

Lastweekend we went to Manchester. It's a very beautiful place and we enjoyed it a lot. It was a very beautiful experience because we also visited the legendary Old Trafford, the Manchester United stadium. Specially the boys enjoyed it. We liked it too much because it's a dream that became true. It's a dream because on that field played many champions like Rooney, Vander Sar, Nani etc etc. We wanted to touch the field and the grass, but our guide said "NO". We stayed

in the tunnel from which the players go to the pitch.

After we went to do shopping but the best part of the trip had been the time that we spent in the stadium...

A wonderful day in Manchester!

Last Saturday, 10th July, we visited Manchester. In the morning we arrived by bus at Old Trafford stadium where we had a tour of all the stadium with the guide. We also went in the dressing room and in the place where the players walk to go onto the pitch. It was a very exciting experience! :) We finished the tour at 1.45pm, then we came back to the bus that brought us into the centre of the city. At that time the teachers gave us about two hours to do shopping or everything we wanted to do. There were lots of beautiful shops as a consequence we buoght a lot of things. We also went to Hard Rock Cafe to buy some t-shirts. We met to the meeting point at 4pm and then we took the bus to come back to the college. At 6pm we had dinner and after we went to the computer room to tell our friends and parents this wonderful experience! That was a very good day! :)

We LOVE Manchester!

On Saturday with the EAC school we went to Manchester. In the morning we went to ''The theatre of Dreams'', The Old Trafford Stadium of Manchester United.
The stadium was fantastic, very exciting and the guide was very funny.
Then we went to the Manchester Shopping Center: it was very, very big but also very, very busy.
We bought souvenirs and Frappuccinis (We LOVE Starbucks!).
It is true that this trip was very tiring but we don't ever forget it!!!

Notes from the Deep - Part One

Alright, so, okey dokey, hold onto your suitcases, strap on the seatbelts and clutch your ID cards tight, here we go: EAC Hull's blog 2010...

Boys, girls, men, women, group leaders and anyone else with eyes, ears or the inclination: roll up for what will soon blossom into the most super-smashing-awesome account of all the astounding things that we get up to here in 'the Pioneering City'.

As I look out of my window across the vast expanse of grass we are blessed with here, students are everywhere: some tucked away in classrooms, fervently studying as they strive to communicate with their new sweethearts in English, others beavering away in the computer room as they research their little hearts out, preparing to become tour guides for the day tomorrow. Still more bounce back on the bus from Hull, wide eyed with wonder from the sight of majestic mammoths and a life-sized stuffed polar bear. And then there are of course the group leaders, many still mopping their brow from a night on the EAC disco dancefloor whilst others can be spied nursing their backs, fresh from the now infamous challenge of a human pyramid.

Voyages of discovery to Manchester, Lincoln and Edinburgh will sail out tomorrow, a leisurely seaside day at Scarborough is due for some on Sunday and Mr and Mrs Universe, no, correction, EAC will be crowned after a series of eye-popping, heart-racing contests lined up this evening.

We'll be back on Monday with pictures, reports and best of all, student accounts of their time with us here but until then I leave you with a thought:

"Listen, and you'll hear poetry, even on the streets of Hull" (Joan Littlewood)

Yours,
